When Plans Change: A lesson In Priorities

Next weekend is the Seattle RV Show, and I’ll be there with the Poulsbo RV display talking all things travel, adventure, and life on the road. RV shows are always a lot of fun — a chance to meet fellow travelers, help people find the right rig for their adventures, and talk about the freedom that RVing brings.

But the week leading up to the show came with a bit of an unexpected twist.

For the past several weeks, I had been planning to run the St. Paddy’s Tacoma Half Marathon on Saturday morning. It’s a race I was genuinely excited about — a good challenge, a great event, and something I had been looking forward to doing before heading into the RV show later in the day.

Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out the way I had hoped.

Earlier this week I was told that arriving late to the show on Saturday wasn’t an option. The choice was made pretty clear: if I wanted to run the race, I wouldn’t be able to come into the show afterward — I’d have to be at the store instead.

Needless to say, that was a bit of a tough pill to swallow.

Anyone who knows me knows that I like to keep a lot of things moving at once — music, business, running, and everything else in between. The half marathon felt like a small but meaningful personal goal in the middle of a busy season. Sometimes though, work commitments come first, especially in an industry where big events like the Seattle RV Show are all hands on deck.

So while I won’t be crossing the finish line in Tacoma on Saturday morning like I planned, I will be at the show helping people plan their own adventures — which, in its own way, is still about getting out there and exploring.

If you’re coming to the Seattle RV Show, stop by the Poulsbo RV display and say hello. I’ll be there all weekend, happy to talk travel, rigs, road trips, and everything in between.

And as for the half marathon… there will always be another race.
